A NEW LOOK FOR PARENTS AT THE PROBLEM OF BULLYING

A great deal of attention has been given to the issue of bullying, and rightfully so because this problem can cause significant harm. Most of the attention has focused on the person doing the bullying, but that is not the only solution. In this brief article, bullying is considered from a psychological rather than a behavioral perspective. The suggestion is we can prevent bullying on either or both ends—the bully and the individual being bullied. One way to explain and address bullying is to address the lack of personal power for both the bully and the target of the bulling. Originally published in the Therapeutic Parenting Journal (2017).
